Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Hobby plan is free forever — no credit card required. You get 10,000 requests/month, 30 RPM, 1 API key, and access to 70+ endpoints. Perfect for testing, side projects, and prototyping.
What happens if I exceed my request limit?
By default, additional requests return a 429 error until your limit resets next billing cycle. However, Indie and Pro plans can enable overage billing in the Developer Console — when enabled, extra usage beyond your limit is charged per 1,000 usage credits ($0.50/1K for Indie, $0.30/1K for Pro) instead of being blocked. Most endpoints consume 1 credit per call, but heavier endpoints cost more: AI-powered endpoints (image recognition, meal plan generation, etc.) consume 20–75 credits, vector search endpoints consume 5 credits, and heavy database endpoints consume 2–5 credits. Full per-endpoint costs are listed in the documentation and visible in Test Kitchen. Hobby plan users must upgrade to increase their limits.
Can I cancel or switch plans anytime?
Yes. No contracts, no cancellation fees. Cancel instantly from the Developer Console — your access stays active until the end of the billing period. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades apply at the end of your current cycle so you keep full access until then.
Who owns the recipe data?
Foodashi grants you a commercial license to use API data in your applications — this is a license, not an ownership transfer. The underlying database, API infrastructure, and algorithms remain Foodashi’s intellectual property. You may not resell raw API responses, systematically scrape or cache data to build a competing database, or redistribute structured data outside your application. Indie and Pro plans include white labeling (no attribution required). Hobby plan is for non-commercial/personal use only. Full terms are in our API License Agreement.
How many API keys can I have?
Hobby gets 1 key, Indie gets 3, Pro gets 10, and Enterprise gets unlimited. You can create, rename, and revoke keys anytime from the Developer Console. Revoked keys are permanently disabled and cannot be reactivated.
What endpoints do I get on each plan?
Endpoint access is tiered. Hobby (22 endpoints): core recipe browsing, ingredient search, nutrition reference, and utilities. Indie (45 endpoints): everything in Hobby + full-text search, autocomplete, bulk/similar lookups, recipe-by-ingredients, meal-plan templates, basic shopping lists, per-recipe nutrition/allergens/beverages, the NutriMetric calculator, and FDA/EU nutrition labels. Pro (all 70+ endpoints): everything above + AI features (meal plan generation/customization, recipe analysis from text/URL, food photo recognition), semantic vector search, natural-language food logging, AI beverage pairing, and recipe compare/taste/sustainability/medical. See the endpoint matrix above for the full per-endpoint breakdown.
How accurate is the nutrition data?
Every recipe returns 8 key nutrients (calories, protein, fat, saturated fat, carbs, fiber, sugars, sodium), EU-14 allergens, and a 6-axis taste profile on every tier; the NutriMetric A–F grade and beverage pairing are included from the Indie tier up. Values are calculated from official government food-composition data where available; where an ingredient isn’t, they’re AI-estimated and flagged at lower confidence — never passed off as authoritative.
Is yearly billing available?
Yes. Switch to yearly billing and get 2 months free. Indie yearly is $250/yr (save $50) and Pro yearly is $900/yr (save $180). You can toggle between monthly and yearly from the pricing cards above.
